Outcomes
Throughout this whole project our top achievement would be installing two water bottle refill stations and securing two recycling bins for the school. So far both items have received positive feedback from the students. As of now, only one of the refill stations has been installed and already it’s saving roughly 100 water bottles per day. That number is tracked with a counter that was installed onto the refill station. The recycling bins collect around 6oo bottles a week which shows that the students do care about recycling. All of this information shows that our mission was well received by the students.
Our temporary outcomes include making cardboard recycling bins to place in the classrooms for students and teachers to use. These bins would be emptied weekly by the members of our OLY’S Crushin It team and all the bottles would be turned into our local recycling plant. Another short term outcome included is awarding students for partaking in recycling and our hands- on activities with candy and a refillable water bottle. In total, about 20-30 students participated in our activities and about 41 students pledged to recycle around campus and at home too.
The refill station and recycling bins are all long term outcomes at the school that will continue being used by the students in the years to come. In addition, our Director of Maintenance, Ian Guajardo, wants more refill stations to be installed at our school and at other schools within the district as well.
