Project Timeline
In the beginning December, we plan on promoting the team's existence and our mission to our fellow peers. To do this we plan on arranging it as phases. Phase One, will be distributing and hanging up flyers with information about our social media. To ensure that our fellow classmates will participate, we will ask teachers to read a brief statement from our Girls Build LA Team. The students will participate in an online survey to record their initial opinions and education about recycling
Phase Two, will take place as our social media becomes popular. Our first approach would be on social media by challenging different clubs and sports to do our “ 30 second crushing challenge.” As we build awareness on our challenge we will bring it live, during lunch time activities. We will do a either weekly or monthly challenge with students, in which they will be eligible to win a reusable bottle. Doing this, would prepare students for bigger events our team would plan such as interactive assemblies and workshops.
At our assemblies, we plan to educate students on why recycling is important. Not only to us, but the whole world. Emphasizing, that change first begins amongst themselves. We would bring speakers from beach clean up organizations, district employees, the San Gabriel water district, and Athens to further explain what good it could bring. We would also reveal our plans to bring recycling bins to make the process easier and efficient.
Phase Three will be installing the water bottle refill station, posting measurable goals for reducing plastic bottle water waste, and offering workshops for both education and creative reuse. We also hope at this time the district will work with us to make recyling a mandatory board policy. We will end with a final survey to see how students opinions and education had been changed since the program's inception.
